WORLD PUDDLE JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIPS SET TO MAKE A RECORD SPLASH
Competitors will attempt to set a new world record when the sixth annual World Puddle Jumping Championships are held at Wicksteed Park.
Organisers are preparing more puddles than ever before in an attempt to make this year’s event, on Wednesday October 24, the biggest and best yet.
And they are hoping that competitors will help set a new record for the most people jumping in puddles at the same time.
This year’s event will run from 10.30am to noon but the championship-standard puddles will be available for children to play in all day.
Judges will give scores based on things such as height of jump, enthusiasm, distance of splash and stickability (the amount of mud which clings to each competitor).
Wicksteed Park head of marketing Rachel James said: “The World Puddle Jumping Championships is a great way to encourage children – and adults – to get out into the fresh air and have fun.
“Every year we have some fantastic competitors who make some tremendous splashes but this year we wanted to give them an extra challenge, so we will be trying to create a new, unofficial world record.”
Wicksteed Park is known as the home of children’s play after being founded by Charles Wicksteed, the inventor of the modern day slide and swing, to encourage families to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle and get out into the fresh air.
The puddle jumping is one of a number of fun events being held at the park this autumn.
All the park’s rides and attractions are open for half-term and the amazing Clip ‘n Climb indoor family climbing venue is launched on November 17.
You can enjoy everything from pumpkin hunts and spooky crafts to lantern making and Wicky’s legendary Little Monsters Ball is on Saturday October 27.
The park’s annual fireworks extravaganza is also being held on Saturday November 3.
