Wicksteed Park is set in 147 beautiful acres of rolling hillside – this means there are no steps to worry about, but you may need some energy or assistance in order to wheel up the hill between the lake and the playground area!
As Wicksteed Park is owned by a charitable trust, it receives no funding from any local or national authority. Therefore, car parking charges are in place in order to maintain the park grounds, even if you have a blue badge.
We have a number of allocated disabled parking spaces on our Bistro car park, however, to enable you to enjoy your time with us as much as possible, you are allowed to take your vehicle around the top two thirds of the Park to wherever suits your needs.
Disabled toilets are available in the following locations:
- The Park View Bistro
- Hexagon Restaurant
- Lakeside area
- Main toilet block next to the Visitor Centre
- Pavilion (private functions only).
Wheelchair users can obtain their wristbands for free. Please visit our Visitor Centre to collect your wristband and have a wonderful day with us! We also have special discounted wristband rates for disabled adults and children who are not wheelchair users: please speak to or visit our Visitor Centre for more details and to purchase your wristbands.
The Park and our function rooms are all wheelchair friendly, and a small number of rides are accessible to wheelchair users too. We advise that until our new footpath is created you try to avoid attempting to go to the far side of the lake, as this area can be a bit boggy at times and quite rough. You may get stuck.
When the Park was designed and built, along with many of the earliest rides, there was no consideration made for people with disabilities. The Park thrives because of its history and nostalgic ‘old fashioned’ feel, and there are a number of our historic rides that will never be able to be adapted to accommodate wheelchairs due to their very nature. We hope that our visitors in wheelchairs understand this and continue to enjoy our beautiful Park. As we replace our older rides over the next few years, we plan to install access-for-all ones wherever possible.
We have a limited number of wheelchairs available for hire on a first come first served basis for a £5 refundable deposit. These can be pre-booked by contacting our First Aid department as soon as possible, on 01536 512475 ext 225. Please note we do not have any electric wheelchairs for hire yet, but if you bring your own, please bring a spare battery just in case!
